On April 21, 2015 Google has announced that there will be a significant algorithm change compared to that of Panda, Penguin and Hummingbird algorithms.
And they are calling it Mobilegeddon.
“As more people use mobile devices to access the internet, our algorithms have to adapt to these usage patterns.” Posted Google on their official blog post and therefore plans to give mobile-friendly websites a higher position in search rankings opposed to sites that are deemed not mobile-friendly.
What does this mean? This means if you have been holding out on implementing a mobile strategy you are losing out on the competitors and it is high time for you to start winning!
This is where to begin:
Google has provided an easy to use mobile-friendly testing tool; all you do is paste in your URL and wait for the results.
*TIP: Google even has recommendations that score your mobile site out of 100. The higher the score the higher the priority for your site!
Though Google’s new algorithm will not affect searches on desktop and laptop computers, mobile usage is growing in number and not having your website mobile-friendly may leave a detrimental impact on your business.
While Google doesn’t give a percentage for searches/sites affected, the company says about 50% of searches are carried out on mobile devices. That a lot of business you could potentially lose!
